In the first year of baby's life, a parent spends an average of 1800 hours of breast or chest feeding -almost equivalent to a full-time job. For her exhibition 'Production ', Scottish ceramicist Cara Guthrie made 1800 hand-thrown porcelain cups to symbolise every one of those hours.
Each Cup is numbered, representing one hour out of 18000, a shrine to the invisible labour of sustaining a new life, no matter how a baby is fed.
Cara chose Amma Birth Companions as the beneficiary of this work, in recognition of the families we support who face the greatest barriers to care.
Each cup is £25, with all proceeds going directly towards supporting Amma's work.
